Welcome to FAIR
Families Acting for Innocent Relatives was formed in 1998 as a support group for the victims of terrorist violence in South Armagh. The idea was to create an organisation to help ordinary people rebuild their lives, and provide friendship for those who have a shared experience of suffering. This was the first in over thirty years that these forgotten victims had any real form of support or help.
For over 25 years FAIR has worked tirelessly to give victims a voice and to provide practical support and care for the bereaved and injured. Our international advocacy and human rights work brought a spotlight onto terrorism in Northern Ireland and challenged those who supported it.
We have led the way in the fight for justice and support for innocent victims ensuring they get a fair deal. Behind the headlines our team of staff and volunteers provide a range to support services to those who suffered as a result of the Northern Ireland Troubles.
After over a quarter of century victims continue to suffer and are often silenced when they speak out. As an organisation set up by victims for victims we exist to ensure that they are treated fairly. That means they are included and listened to as we all move forward, that their demands for justice and equality are acted upon and that their suffering is addressed.
Join us as we attempt to build a fair, just and lasting peace in Northern Ireland.
A Voice for Victims
Since 1998 FAIR has provided a voice for innocent victims of terrorist violence in Northern Ireland.
Our work is based on a vision for a better future for those who have suffered in the past. We are victim centred and victim led. As a group we provide a voice, vital services and valuable support, based on fundamental values and visible action
FAIR was formed as an non-sectarian, non-political organisation to work in the interests of the innocent victims of terrorism in South Armagh.
Our community has been continually devastated by terrorist activity for the past 30 years and more. Help us regain our lost dignity and get our message out.
We are determined that we will have a future given what we have endured in the past to secure our existence.
Our views and voices must be listened to and our experiences respected if we are to forge a genuine peace in South Armagh. We are the people whose bodies and lives have been shattered. We are a constant reminder of the ethnic cleansing and genocide that has taken place. Our aim is to ensure that the great sacrifice of the Unionist Community in South Armagh will never be forgotten.
We see the building of trust in our communities as being the way forward. Fear of Republican violence and intimidation is still present among ordinary Protestants and Catholics in South Armagh. Currently everything is geared toward the Republicans with Victims groups not being listened to. We feel the government and media must start listening to the people who have suffered – what it is they want and how they can rebuild their lives.
