DROP IN Facilities

Our Living Memorial Centre in Markethill provides a drop in service for victims.

Welcome to the FAIR Living Memorial Centre

Families Acting for Innocent Relatives bought Mount Pleasant House as a Living Memorial Centre for victims of the Troubles in 2004.

One of the aims of FAIR has always been to maintain a ‘Living Memorial Centre’ a place where victims could come and feel safe and supported.

That dream became a reality when they were able to secure a historic property on the edge of Markethill. The premises soon became a hub for the organisation with administrative and office space, meeting and multi-purpose space for events and training, an IT suite and space for archives.

As new projects came online the group soon outgrew the main house and over the years a series of temporary office accommodation and workshops for picture framing were installed.

The Centre has offered a drop-in facility for almost two decades with thousands of victims and visitors enjoying hours of activities, support events, and a range of other services.

Drop-in Services

Our drop-in services are designed to provide immediate support and assistance to individuals affected by acts of terrorism. These services offer a safe and welcoming space where victims can seek help, access resources, and connect with others who have experienced similar traumas.

Where time and resources allow we offer an open door policy where victims can find a safe supportive space and a listening ear when they need it.

The primary objective of drop-in services is to provide victims with a place to go when they need immediate support or information. We maintain a flexible and informal structure, allowing victims to visit without appointments or prior arrangements. This ensures that victims can access assistance whenever they need it, without the need for scheduling or lengthy waiting periods. Most of our members realise that this is a difficult service to offer and ensure that resources are available only for those most in need.

Some key features of victims of terrorism drop-in services include:

1. Immediate Assistance: Drop-in services aim to provide immediate assistance to victims, whether it is emotional support, guidance, or practical help. Trained staff or volunteers are available to listen, offer advice, provide referrals, or connect victims with appropriate resources.

2. Information and Referrals: Drop-in services offer victims information about available support programs, counselling services, legal assistance, and financial aid options. They can guide victims through the process of accessing these resources and connect them with relevant organisations or agencies.

3. Emotional Support: Drop-in services provide a compassionate and non-judgmental environment where victims can share their experiences, express their emotions, and receive emotional support. Staff or volunteers are trained to offer active listening, empathy, and validation to help victims cope with the aftermath of a terrorist attack.

4. Practical Assistance: Victims of terrorism drop-in services may also provide practical assistance, such as help with filling out forms, accessing financial support, or navigating bureaucratic processes. This can alleviate some of the burdens and challenges that victims may face as they try to rebuild their lives.

5. Networking Opportunities: Drop-in services often facilitate networking opportunities for victims, allowing them to connect with others who have gone through similar experiences. This can create a sense of community, support, and solidarity, which is vital for the healing and recovery process.

6. Awareness and Education: Drop-in services may also engage in awareness campaigns and education initiatives to raise public awareness about the needs and experiences of victims of terrorism. These efforts aim to reduce stigma, promote understanding, and encourage support for victims within the wider community.

Victims of terrorism drop-in services serve as a vital resource for immediate support and assistance to individuals affected by terrorism. By providing a safe and accessible space, they help victims navigate the challenges they face and connect them with the necessary resources for their recovery and well-being.
